Losing weight versus managing your weight

There is a lot more to weight management than just losing weight, although losing some weight is one important aspect of weight management, especially in the beginning. There are a multiplicity of weight management programs that are usually combined with weight loss programs. It is important to know and understand the difference between weight management and weight loss. Weight loss is just one aspect of the larger picture of weight management.

For example, changing your diet is a major part of any weight loss and management program. While you can change your diet in terms of losing weight and keeping the pounds off, but equally important is changing your lifestyle, so that the success you have achieved is not lost. Look at your attitude towards weight management. If it is positive and constructive, you are likely to succeed.

Make the decision to manage your weight

Once you make the decision to manage your weight, begin by documenting the date, your current weight and your proposed weight loss. There are many ways that you can manage your weight including physical exercise. At times, you can begin your weight loss and weight management with your friends.

Begin by doing something to lose weight

Your initial efforts at weight loss are important. They will also help to determine how well you are able to maintain your weight loss, in terms of short or long term weight management. Remember that this is your weight management program, so you are alone on this. Your success with respect to your weight management program is entirely up to you, although there are others who can help you including your family physician and other health care professionals.

Document your success

Documenting your success in terms of your initial weight loss is important, as it will encourage your and others to continue to manage your weight. Remember that physical activities help to burn calories and further weight loss may be something that is part of your weight management program.

Consider other aspects of weight management

There are many other aspects of weight management that should be taken into consideration. Probably one of the most important is your attitude. "I can do it," puts you into a positive mode regarding weight management. Remember that losing weight and maintaining your weight loss is a 'gain' mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually for you. It is not a 'loss' in your life, as you will find realms of enjoyment that you never anticipated.

A family member, buddy or friend who will be able to encourage you in terms of weight loss and weight management
The desire to be in control of your initial weight loss and your ongoing weight management
A digital camera to take regular photographs of yourself, as you maintain your new weight
A fun and easy way to lose weight and to manage your weight the rest of your life
Tips & Warnings   
Weight loss and weight management are not for the faint of heart, as they both require effort on your part.
Beginning with and maintaining a positive attitude towards weight loss and weight management is important.
Weight loss helps you reach your desired weight, while weight management requires an ongoing effort to maintain that weight loss.
As you succeed, you will find new ways to help others to do the same thing.
You will see a change in your weight and your appearance for the better, as you lose weight and continue to maintain or manage your weight.
You will probably be amazed at how much better you feel and how much healthier you are.
Don't be afraid to boast a bit, as there are many others who also need to do the same thing.
